4th Annual Welding Project Challenge

This year's Built It, Didn't Buy It welding project contest is looking for projects you built vs. bought because (but not limited to):

  • You could build it cheaper
  • You could build it better
  • You couldn't find exactly what you were looking for
  • Your spouse wouldn't let you buy it

3 Categories to Enter:

Easy Project

  • Can be done in about a day’s worth of time or less
  • Can be completed with common metalworking tools (ie: hacksaw, vice grips, hammers, etc)
  • Requires beginner metal working and welding skills

Moderate Project

  • Can be done in about a week’s worth of time
  • Slightly more advanced metalworking tools needed (ie: chopsaws, drill press, oxyfuel cutting equipment)
  • Requires more than just basic welding and metal working skills

Difficult Project

  • May take several weeks or months
  • Requires advanced metalworking tools (ie: English wheels, tube benders, plasma cutting equipment, etc)
  • Requires advanced metal working and welding skills

Submit Your Project

Judging Criteria:

Creativity
How unique, clever, or inventive is the project design?
Quality of Presentation
Do the images clearly represent the project and does the description define what the project is and/or what it does?
Adherence to the Theme
How well does the project fit into the Built It, Didn’t Buy It theme?

* Miller’s panel of judges will determine the top 5 finalists in each category. Then in September you will have the chance to choose the Grand Prize winner in each category by voting for your favorite project.
