Miller’s New Trailblazer® 302 EFI and Bobcat™ 250 EFI: Electronic Fuel Injection Reduces Operating Costs, Emissions
Electronic Fuel Injected (EFI) models reduce fuel consumption and emissions while improving performance over carburetor models. Contractors get a machine that’s good for the environment and reduces overall operating costs.
Highlights/Key Facts
- Fuel economy improved as much as 27 percent; 15 gallons of performance from a 12-gallon tank.
- 33-percent lower hydrocarbon (HC) and nitrogen oxide (NOx) emissions; 27-percent lower carbon monoxide (CO) output.
- Easy starting in all climates—no choke required.
- 12,000 watts of generator power with both the Bobcat™ 250 EFI and Trailblazer® 302 EFI.
- Increased weld outputs.

APPLETON, Wis., January 04, 2010—Miller Electric Mfg. Co. introduces the industry’s only Electronic Fuel Injected (EFI) engine-driven twin-cylinder welder generators: The Trailblazer® 302 EFI and the Bobcat™ 250 EFI. Replacing the carburetor with EFI improves fuel economy up to 27 percent, reduces harmful emissions up to 33 percent and eliminates carburetor icing. Miller also increased the weld output and generator power (12,000 peak/10,500 continuous watts) on both machines to provide contractors a green, cost-efficient machine with improved performance over carburetor-based models.
Replacing carburetors with EFI reduces hydrocarbon (HC) and nitrogen oxide (NOx) emissions by 33 percent and carbon monoxide (CO) emissions by 27 percent while also saving as much as $1,000/year (assuming 25 gallons per week at $3 per gallon) in fuel costs.

Quotes
“My biggest concern is fuel economy. It’s not just the cost of the fuel; it’s the cost of the time it takes to get the fuel and to fuel up the machine. The more economical the machine that I can get and the less often I have to go get fuel, the happier I am.”
—Kevin Callahan, project manager, APEX Steel, Redmond, Wash.
“We need a 300-amp machine for 5/64-in. wire to get us the production speeds that it takes to be competitive. This is a good size machine for the loads that we require.”

Higher Welding Output
The Trailblazer 302 EFI and Bobcat 250 EFI are both true multi-process machines that provide strong Stick, MIG, flux cored, AC/DC TIG and gouging capabilities. The Trailblazer 302 welds 280 amps at 100-percent duty cycle (300 amps/Stick); The Bobcat 250 welds 250 amps at 100-percent duty cycle (275 amps for wire welding). Running Miller welders off either machine’s generator power further transforms these engine drives into powerful multi-arc systems that increase productivity while lowering fuel use and cost-per-arc ownership.
All rated outputs are tested at 104 degrees Fahrenheit for optimal performance and integrity. Both machines feature a protective armor similar to that used in automotive bumpers and tractor hoods. This offers high-impact resistance in all temperatures and is chemical resistant. EFI eliminates carburetor icing and ensures easy starting and optimal performance in all climates.
