APPLETON, Wis., November 21, 2007— Miller Electric Mfg. Co. recently broke ground on a 28,000-sq.-ft., $1.9 million expansion to its Portable Power facility at N675 Mayflower Drive, Appleton, Wis. Miller manufactures its highly popular Bobcat™ welder generators at the facility. Bobcat welder generators are comparably priced to stand-alone power generators, but provide built-in welding capabilities.
“Miller’s Portable Power business line has seen double-digit growth each of the last five years, primarily due to increased demand for its products in the farm and ranch, construction and rental markets,” said Rick Beeson, general manager of Miller’s Portable Power group, which employs 52 people. “We need extra room to nurture that growth and maintain our efficiency.”
“Also, since the Bobcat is a 10kW generator, many people purchase Bobcats to power their houses during natural disasters, such as hurricanes and ice storms,” said Dean Criter, director of operations for Miller’s Portable Power group. “This additional space will also allow us to respond quicker to those periods of increased demand.”
Earlier this year, Miller celebrated the opening of its new Light Industrial building, its eighth facility in the Fox Valley. Miller’s double-digit growth over the past three years has out-paced the industry.
“This expansion is another example of Miller’s commitment to our workforce and the surrounding community,” says Criter. “It is a direct reflection of our employees’ dedication and a testimony to our lean manufacturing principles, which allows us to adapt to changing situations and continue to meet the needs of our customers.”
“Even during the lean years of 2000 and 2001, we kept growing,” said Beeson. “The type of ongoing success is due to our continuing commitment to providing our customers with quality products.”
