New Suitcase X-TREME 8VS Wire Feeder Combines Lightweight Portability with Durability

APPLETON, Wis., August 7, 2007— Miller Electric Mfg. Co.'s Suitcase X-TREME™ 8VS (voltage sensing) wire feeder delivers lightweight portability and reliability in a highly durable case that is designed to easilyfit through a ship's hatches and into other confined spaces. The compact SuitCase X-TREME 8VS weighs 28 lbs., holds an 8-inch spool of welding wire and offers the same features as the larger, 35-lb. Suitcase X-TREME 12VS, which holds a 12-inch spool of wire. The Suitcase X-TREME 8VS’s polypropylene caseisthe toughest available in the industry and withstands the rigors of extremeshipbuilding, construction, maintenance and rental equipment applications.

For a limited time, Miller will include a free Bernard® Q300 MIG gun with each Suitcase X-TREME 8VS purchase—a $420 value. End-users should contact their local welding supply distributor for additional information and details.

The SuitCase X-TREME 8VS is a voltage-sensing feeder that receives power from a combination of open circuit and arc voltage, so it does not require a 14-pin power/control cable unlike RC (Remote Control) feeders. Many operators feel the power/control cord is just one more item to carry, lose or get damaged.

For maximum mobility, the Suitcase X-TREME 8VS feeder can be used up 400 feet away from the power source while RC feeders are limited to a distance of 75 feet. The Suitcase X-TREME 8VS feeder also provides maximum versatility and will operate with nearly all DC CV/CC welders.

The Suitcase X-TREME 8VS features a potted and trayed main printed circuit board and double-filtered gas valve that helps keep dirt from affecting gas flow for superior durability. One side of the feeder features molded-in slide rails, so operators can literally drag the feeder on the ground without damaging the case.

For operator convenience, optional SunVision™ digital meters display voltage and wire feed speed or amperage—and are visible even in direct sunlight. Miller also offers an optional trigger hold function to increase operator comfort when making long, continuous welds. The Suitcase X-TREME 8VS’s two fully-driven drive rolls provide positive feeding performance with solid wires from .023 to 1/16 in. and cored wires from .030 to 1/16 in.

The air-cooled Bernard Q300 MIG gun is rated at 300-amps at 100 percent duty cycle with CO2 shielding gas. The Q300 includes Bernard’s Centerfire™ series of contact tips, which “drop in” the gas diffuser and are locked in place by tightening the nozzle.
