Miller Designs New Web Site For Welding Instructors

Designed with welding instructors in mind, this new portion of the MIller Electric Mfg. Co. Web site offers extensive educational resources in addition to user-friendly product guides.

APPLETON, Wis., Mar. 24, 2006 — Welding instructors don’t want to spend countless hours staying up to date on the latest welding technologies and sorting through reams of catalogs in search of the best equipment and educational resources for their schools. They just want the right welding units, training materials and to focus their valuable time on teaching.

With that in mind, Miller Electric Mfg. Co. (www.MillerWelds.com) recently unveiled a new section of its Web site developed specifically for high school, vo-tech and university welding instructors, offering a straightforward guide to the latest technological innovations in welding along with a wealth of product and process information chosen for its educational value (www.Millerwelds.com/interests/instructors/).

“We wanted the educational community to know that Miller Electric supports them and their mission,” explained Neal Borchert, business development manager, Miller Electric Mfg. Co. “Welding instructors teach a variety of classes and are often too busy to stay abreast of all the latest technological innovations in welding products. This can make it difficult to know exactly which welder will best meet their needs.”

Located at www.millerwelds.com/instructors, the site lists recommended welding packages, including accessories and filler metals, ranging from the most technologically advanced, inverter-based welders on the market to the most affordable units still suitable for educational purposes.

“We wanted to make sure that there was some logic to the product mix when they see the recommended packages. It’s kind of a good, better, best organization,” Borchert said, adding that the site will be updated as Miller develops new products for welding education. “I can easily see these products changing over time as the technology advances.”

The site offers packages configured specifically for education in the MIG, TIG, Stick, oxy-fuel, plasma cutting, multi-process and multi-operator categories as well as commonly used filler metals for each welding process. Clicking on the “More Info” links will take instructors to detailed specifications pages for each product, including recommended applications, comparisons to competitors’ products and explanations of the technology involved in each model.

Borchert also hand selected various accessories frequently used in lab applications, further simplifying the instructor’s task. “I cherry-picked the accessory lines because, much like the product lines, the variety of accessories available for each welder can be overwhelming,” Borchert said.

In addition to the product recommendations, the new section includes a variety of free classroom resources, including online student training, downloadable books and pamphlets, reference materials, tech tips, welding project ideas and desktop images.

“Most training facilities face limited budgets,” Borchert said, “so I went through our product line and put Miller’s free classroom resources on the Web site. Instructors can easily download welding process books and pamphlets, make copies have their welding class up and going.”

A Feedback portion of the site leads directly to Borchert, allowing instructors to ask him questions about products and projects, share their experiences with Miller products or make recommendations for improvement.

The site also contains links and information about instructor training and continuing education courses offered by Miller and the Hobart Institute of Welding Technology (HIWT), as well as links to other welding institutions and local distributors.

As part of its commitment to welding education, Miller is a proud supporter of Skills USA, the national organization for students in trade, industrial, technical and health occupations education. The company encourages young people to explore rewarding careers in welding through donations of equipment, technical support, scholarships, training and sponsorships.
