PowCon® Arc Stud™ 625 by Miller Electric Mfg. Co. Weighs 75 lbs.
• Provides inverter technology for superior arc control
APPLETON, Wis. March 15, 2005- Designed for maximum portability when arc stud welding, the new PowCon® Arc Stud™ 625 stud welder by Miller Electric Mfg. Co. features inverter arc control technology for superior arc stud performance and lightweight portability. Where other arc stud welders can weigh hundreds of pounds, the Arc Stud 625 weighs only 75 lbs., enabling manual portability on the work site.

The Arc Stud 625 has an output range of 50 to 1000 amps and a rated output of 1000 amps/34 volts at a 7 percent/4 studs per minute duty cycle. Stud diameters range from 1/8 in. to 5/8 in. and welding a 5/8-in. stud requires only 950 amps and takes 3/4 seconds. The efficiencies of the Arc Stud 625 benefit those in the fabrication, maintenance, structural steel, shipyard and bridge construction industries.
“Without a stud welder, operators may be required to bond studs to metal by welding around the circumference of each stud,” states Sean Moran, product manager, Miller Electric. “Depending on the amount of studs that need fastening, this process could become time consuming and cumbersome. However, with the Arc Stud 625, an operator only needs to place a stud into the application gun, hold the stud to the metal and pull the trigger. The stud will automatically lift up from the metal, create the arc and plunge back down into the metal.”
Portability
Because it features inverter technology, the Arc Stud 625 offers more power per pound when compared to traditional arc stud welders. Size becomes especially important at job sites with portable equipment needs, such as in ship or steel construction. With its compact footprint and lightweight design, the Arc Stud 625 easily moves around work sites. Portability of equipment can drastically reduce the costs associated with downtime by minimizing the time typically associated with moving heavy machinery around job sites. Where typical 5/8 in. capacity arc stud welders weigh over two hundred pounds, the Arc Stud 625 weighs only 75 lbs. and measures 17-inch high, 12-1/2-inch wide and 24-inch deep. Its lightweight, aerospace-grade brushed aluminum case also helps reduce its weight, while offering added protection to the Arc Stud 625’s internal parts.
Innovation
The Arc Stud 625 uses the same technology of Miller’s XMT® 304 multiprocess inverter except the process changed from multiprocess to arc stud welding. In addition, the Arc Stud 625 has a rated output of 1000 amps compared to the XMT 304’s rated output of 300 amps.
“We took the technology of a very reliable and efficient Miller inverter and turned it into a machine that offers a completely different process,” states Moran. “By using Miller inverter technology, already established as the most reliable in the construction industry, we created an Arc Stud welder unlike any other in the market today.”
Other Miller technologies incorporated into the Arc Stud 625’s design include the Fan-On-Demand™ cooling system that operates only when needed, reducing noise, energy use and the amount of contaminates pulled through the machine, along with an Auto-Link® circuit, which automatically links the power source to the primary voltage applied (480/575 VAC, three-phase). The Arc Stud 625 also offers Wind Tunnel Technology™ that protects electrical components and PC boards from contamination.
