RELIABLE BLUE STAR® GENERATOR-WELDERS HOLD THREE TIMES MORE FUEL FOR LONGER RUN TIMES

* Additional fuel capacity now five gallons

* Auto-Idle feature reduces fuel consumption and noise levels

APPLETON, Wis. June 14, 2005-To reduce fuel consumption and increase productivity, Miller Electric Mfg. Co. introduced the newly enhanced Blue Star® 145 and Blue Star 185 Series of portable engine-driven gas generator-welders. The Blue Star Series comes in both deluxe and standard models. With a fuel capacity three times larger than previous models (now five gallons), the Blue Star 145 DX and 185 DX models offer increased run times. Also featuring Auto Idle, the Blue Star DX models idle when not under load, which further helps to decrease fuel consumption and increase productivity, while reducing noise levels. The Blue Star Series feature a strong Accu-rated™ (not inflated(useable peak power of 4,500 watts for the Blue Star 145 and 6,000 watts for the Blue Star 185. Bulletproof technology—as used in Miller's Bobcat® Series of engine-driven welding generators—eliminates use of complicated circuit boards, while a compact footprint makes the Blue Star Series lightweight and portable.

"The Blue Star is perfect for power generation and welding in areas where space is limited," states Doug Dorn, product manager, Miller Electric. "The Blue Star is especially popular for its power generation capabilities where garage and truck space is minimal."

With the Blue Star Series, power and reliability come in one compact package that offers both power generation and welding capabilities. The Blue Star Series is used by the maintenance/repair, farm/ranch and construction industries and is often used when job site workspace is limited. The Blue Star is one-man portable when outfitted with optional running gear. When truck mounted, space occupied by the Blue Star is minimal. Offering class leading weld ouput, the Blue Star 145 DX offers a rated output of 100 amps/25 V at a duty cycle of 60 percent, while the Blue Star 185 DX provides a rated output of 130 amps/25 V at a duty cycle of 60 percent.

Improved Productivity

With an increased fuel tank size, the Blue Star 145 DX and 185 DX models provide longer run times for welder and generator usage, increasing productivity by minimizing the number of times refueling is necessary. Three times the size of its previous fuel tank, the Blue Star 185 DX will run for approximately 7 hours under a continuous load of 3,000 watts; when welding at 130 amps (duty cycle of 30%), the unit will run for about 15 hours. In addition, Auto Idle, included on the DX models, further reduces fuel consumption by idling the engine when not in use. This feature also helps to decrease noise levels in the workplace, allowing for a more worker-friendly environment.

Tough and Reliable

"Miller's engine-driven welding generators are known for their reliability and durability," states Dorn. "With the Blue Star it's no different. It's built tough to withstand incidental abuse at any job site."

The Blue Star Series now has power receptacle covers, improving reliability by protecting the receptacles from debris. In addition, air-cooled OHV engines ensure consistent engine performance. The Blue Star 145 models come with a Kohler CS10 engine, providing 10 HP at 3600 RPM, while the Blue Star 185 provides a Honda GX390 engine, featuring 13 HP at 3600 RPM. The Blue Star 185 DX features a Kohler CS13, engine offering13 HP at 3600 RPM. The DX models offer an enclosed case design, protecting the engine and fuel tank, while optional protective covers guard the Blue Stars' finish.

Strong Accu-Rated Power

The Blue Star 145 offers 4,500 watts and the Blue Star 185 provides 6,000 watts of Accu-Rated™ power. Miller developed the Accu-Rated standard to give customers some honesty and clarity when comparing generator power. This standard means that the Blue Star provides its useable peak power for a minimum of 30 seconds and performs significantly better than the competition's very short duration peak or surge power.

Miller rates its generator and welding power outputs conservatively at an ambient temperature of 104 degrees Fahrenheit, real working conditions in many parts of the country. Some competitive units are rated at 86 degrees F, which means their actual welding and generator outputs need to be de-rated at 104 degrees F.

The Blue Star series is covered by Miller's True-Blue(r) three-year factory warranty.
